MENTORS

All Pathways mentors will be a part of the Wake Technical Community College’s faculty and staff.  These persons are here to serve the student participants of Pathways (mentees) in the areas of helping to direct them to the necessary resources available at the college when needed.   It is hoped that each mentor can build trusting, professional relationships with their mentees.  Ways to do this include making once-a-week phone or email contact with mentees, showing a genuine concern for the mentee, and participating to the best of their ability in programs sponsored by Pathways.    Mentors have no financial obligations toward mentees.  The goal is to place mentees with mentors on their perspective campuses, thus to increase mentor-mentee communication.  Once the mentor is paired with his or her mentee(s), they can schedule an initial meeting with the mentee just to break the ice/go over expectations such as the frequency of scheduling/communication.  Each mentoring relationship will differ, depending upon the needs and interest of the mentee(s).  About 5 hours a month should be devoted to the mentoring relationship.  It is important that each participating mentor and mentee agree to work together for the duration of a semester.  If the mentor and mentee desire to continue participating in the program, time of course is continued/extended.  Pathways will meet as an organization once a month.
